It’s me.

With the new years, I’ve been thinking of any resolutions that I could make while continuing my job search.

One of the many desired skills that I’ve seen for junior developer jobs was experience in Agile/SCRUM project lifecycles. These are methodologies that help structure the development process and promotes best practices and accountability in a team. Scrum, a lightweight process for agile development, is the most widely used one.

Benefits beyond what was stated above impact parties of all facets in the product development cycle, from the customer to company executives, everyone can take advantage of including agile practices to their work.

So what are these benefits, and how can I tie them into my new years’ resolution?

This chart, from cprime.com, puts the overall effect of agile development into perspective. Since I’m a developer, let’s take a closer look at the development teams section…

According to cprime’s article, one aspect of agile development that teams will benefit from is seeing their work used and valued. The process facilitates enjoyment in the development work, by reducing extraneous functions and allowing developers to focus on work that matters, there is a heightened sense of morale formed among team members. Developers know their work is valued because the structure maximizes the value to customers.

To translate to how Agile development affects me, by breaking down deliverables into manageable goals, I can focus on work that matters, increasing my productivity, and streamlining my progress as I continue to work. Seeing my work take shape instills a sense of enjoyment, thus perpetuating the cycle.

With this, I hope to full explore more ways on how to integrate Agile methodologies into my personal projects, so I can take advantage of the benefits that it has to offer.
